Humanistic, behavioral, existential, family, feminist and many other therapy orientations support leaving the office when it is aimed to increase clinical effectiveness. I find that psychotherapy sessions in the coffee shop may sound surprising and strange...especially, if you are a traditional type who dislikes out of the box...and if so, you probably are not going to be one of my clients anyway, because I AM an OUTSIDE of the box thinking therapist.
You may be picturing yourself having a cup of coffee...awww the familiar difference between a latte and espresso, cappucino, and frappucino. You come back to the coffee shop as a meeting place, as a social hub. However, my work as a psychotherapist has a synergistic relationship with the healing of a coffee shop. Coffee, while processing life's issues, provides an excuse for our need to relax and intraconnect in the ebb and flow of life.
One way we help clients is to provide "Coffee and a Therapist" sessions. These sessions are all pre-paid for reservation slots, are all out of pocket sessions, and are not provided for insurance reimbursements. These sessions allow Dr. Buchanan to meet clients at either our in office coffee counter, at public local coffee shops, local cafe's, local bistros to have coffee and...a therapist. Clients get to have 60 minutes of her time to just...talk...reflect...and talk. Intake in office session required, pre-screening required for safety purposes and a HIPPA compliant briefing for sessions.
The required non-insurance and prepaid nonrefundable intake session is $150.00 for 60 minutes. Sessions are non-refundable, and are $75.00 for 45 minutes, $85.00 for 60 minute sessions. Coffee and a Therapist allows cognitive, social, emotional, clinical, neurophysiological, and even spiritual healing to occur, for clients to "Get Up, Be Raised Up, Grow."
